11.15.15 Poem Depot at the Miami Book Fair International

It’s Miami Book Fair season! On Sunday, November 15, at the Miami Book Fair International, poets Jan Becker, Leenie Moore, and M.J. Fievre will create on-demand verses for passers-by on manual typewriters. The project is called the “Poem Depot,” and it’s the brainchild of the Miami Poetry Collective.

Stop by 5:30 on The Porch @ The Swamp and get your very own on-demand poem. (The Swamp is a pop-up lounge at the Book Fair that features writers whose works explore the beauty, contradictions, uniqueness and weirdness of life in the Sunshine State.)

Did you know? The first Miami Book Fair International, founded by Miami Dade College and community partners, took place in 1984. Since then, it has been recognized as the nation’s finest literary festival. In 2001, the Fair became part of The Center for Writing and Literature @ Miami Dade College, a cultural and academic initiative that promotes the advancement and appreciation of literature throughout the year.

Some of my favorite authors will be at the fair this year, including Alexandra Fuller, Tananarive Due, Edwidge Danticat, and Mary Karr.
