FIU Alumni Reading

Some of the readers:

Jennifer Ammon has an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida International University in Miami. She was the recipient of the graduate creative nonfiction award at the 2008 FIU Literary Awards Competition. Jennifer recently finished a novel, A GIRL FROM OHIO.

Cecilia Fernandez is an independent journalist with a passion for Cuban literature. Her work has appeared in Accent Miami, Upstairs at the Duroc, Vista Magazine, and Le Siecle de George Sand. Recently, she finished a memoir entitled LEAVING LITTLE HAVANA. She has been a reporter for The Stockton Record, The San Francisco Chronicle, and for the television stations WPBT, WSVN, WSCV, and WLTV. Cecilia has an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida International University, an MA in English Literature from the University of Miami, and a BA in Journalism from the University of California.

Nicholas Garnett graduated from Florida International University (FIU) with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. His work has appeared in the literary journal r.kv.ry, and The Florida Book Review. He is a two-time recipient of first place in the FIU literary award for nonfiction. His memoir, entitled TWISTED STRAIGHT, is currently with an agent being shopped to publishers.

Norma Watkins is professor emerita at Miami Dade College, where she taught, directed the Environmental Ethics Institute, and held an endowed chair. She teaches creative writing at the College of the Redwoods and is an essayist for the St. Petersburg Times.
