Check out the recorded event, Haiti Noir: The Classics, featuring Edwidge Danticat, Marie Ketsia Theodore-Pharel, and M.J. Fievre.
M.J. contributed to the original best-selling Haiti Noir (Akashic Books, 2011), which comprised all new stories by today’s best Haitian authors. The new volume (Haiti Noir II: The Classics) collects the true classics of Haitian literature—both short stories and excerpts from longer works—and will be an integral piece to the understanding of how Haitian culture has evolved over the past fifty years. Editor Edwidge Danticat, one of the most respected Haitian writers, has a well-deserved sterling reputation, and here she follows on the success of the original first volume.
M.J. was invited by Akashic Books to read a story at the launch of Haiti Noir II on January 29, at Books & Books, in Coral Gables. Other readers included writers Edwidge Danticat and Marie Ketsia Theodore-Pharel. M.J. read a piece by author Michèle Voltaire Marcelin (starts around 35:00).
