Amelie was getting ready for her court translation certificate exam. She’d been studying Haitian Creole for years, and was nearly ready to begin work in the Miami-Dade County court system, but she needed an instructor who was familiar with the exam that would finalize her career goals and land her the job of her dreams.
I’m the teacher she needed.
As a certified court translator, I had the background and experience Amelie needed to help her study for her exam. I teach students how to read, write, and understand French and Haitian Creole. I provide instruction in literature and cross-cultural studies, and can work individually or in small groups in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. My goal is also to develop student understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where French and/or Haitian Creole is spoken. I’m experienced in creating instructional resources for use in the classroom and provide a positive educational climate for students to learn in.
It didn’t take long at all for Amelie to gain the knowledge she needed to feel she was fluent enough for the certification test. Amelie aced her exam. The last time I heard from her, she called to let me know she’d accepted a job offer in Orlando, translating in one of the court systems housed there.
I told her I was proud of her.
