Dear readers,
I’m writing now with some exciting news I’m thrilled to share with you.
This December 1, 2019, my publisher Books & Books Press, (an imprint of Mango Publishing) will release my latest book, Happy, Okay?: Poems about Anxiety, Depression, Hope, and Survival.
This book is a labor of love for me, and a departure from what I usually write, in that it is a book of poetry. More importantly, it is a book which explores the painful isolation of anxiety, depression and mental illness, that then takes the reader on a journey to self-discovery and healing. It is told through the story of Paloma, a young Haitian American woman from Hialeah, FL.
As you may be aware, mental illness carries a heavy stigma in the Black community, and it is my hope that I can reach a wide audience of readers to help break down the taboo people of color often face when looking for help for common issues like anxiety and depression.
Already the book is receiving strong praise from notable professionals and writers I admire, including Denise Duhamel, Guest Editor of Best American Poetry, Edwidge Danticat, the noted Haitian American novelist and short story writer, and others.
This book is very dear to my heart. I hope that you will consider spreading the word about its publication among your cohort and on social media, as well as taking the opportunity to order an advanced copy for yourself through Amazon.com. You can order the book here.
Click here for a press kit. I’m available for book club meetings, podcasts, interviews, reviews, classroom visits, conferences, public speaking engagements or any other venue you think might be a good fit for me and my book. The success of a book often depends on word of mouth and networking, and I’d appreciate any attention you can share about my latest publication.
Your on-going support means a great deal to me. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Warm Regards,
M.J. Fievre
